Sinclair Wyoming Refining Company (SWRC) needed to update their Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) as part of their PSM program and to meet insurance guidelines. As part of the updating process they decided that they wanted to upgrade to “Smart P&IDs”.
SWRC originally hired REDD to perform the field reviews and drafting, but due to demands on their internal technical team they expanded REDD’s scope to also include initial review of process and controls.
After receiving over 1500 updated drawings SWRC has, more efficiently and confidently, been able to facilitate Process Hazard Analyses, resolve core issues in incident investigations, make process improvements and allow for new uses of the drawings including as the base data in the maintenance and operations management software Maximo.
With the benefits realized, SWRC expects to save more in increased efficiency with new “smart P&ID’s” than spent developing them proving once again that PSM Pays.
